Memorial Day I Madonnari Festival At The Santa Barbara Mission

The "Mona Lisa" of Santa Barbara!Dont’ miss this weekend’s        I MADONNARI Festival at the Old Santa Barbara Mission.  The 2012 Schedule of events begins on May 26 and lasts the entire three days of Memorial Day weekend. This year will mark the 26th anniversary of the local celebration which has it historic roots in our sister festival in Grazie de Curtatone, Italy.

Sponsor’s pay up to $650 to have local and international artists of all ages and abilities create beautiful artwork on the street at the base of the stairs of the Old Santa Barbara Mission.  The Money raised from the sponsor sales and food stands benefits the Children’s Creative Project which in turn serves 50,000 children in more than 100 local schools.

Admission is FREE and the event runs from 10:00-6:00. If you are visiting Santa Barbara and have never seen this before, you will not believe just how incredible chalk paintings can look on bare asphalt. The Historic Santa Barbara Old Mission is located a short distance from downtown on the corner of Laguna and Los Olivos Streets.  The best time to see the completed artwork is Sunday into Monday.
